Description

A rustic, comforting dessert featuring juicy strawberries and a tender, cake-like topping. Perfect served warm with ice cream, this summer treat is ideal for gatherings or cozy meals.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced if large
1 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup milk (any kind, whole recommended)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Combine strawberries with 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, and cinnamon (if using). Let sit for 10 minutes.
In a bowl, mix remaining 1 cup flour, baking powder, salt, and melted butter. Gradually add milk until a thick batter forms.
Spread fruit mixture into the prepared dish. Drop spoonfuls of topping mixture over the fruit.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Frozen strawberries work well—no need to thaw.
Adjust sugar to strawberry sweetness.
Cinnamon is optional but recommended for added warmth.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
