Ingredients
2 cups fresh strawberries, hullled and sliced
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
½ cup whole milk
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
Lightly grease an 8-inch round or 9-inch square baking dish
In a bowl, toss strawberries with 2 tablespoons of the sugar
In another bowl, cream butter and remaining sugar until smooth
Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in milk and vanilla
Sift flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt, then fold into wet ingredients
Spread half the batter into the prepared dish
Top with strawberries and remaining batter
Sprinkle with cinnamon, if desired
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
Let cool slightly before serving warm
