A hearty, flavorful classic comfort food made with ground beef, tangy tomato sauce, and sweet brown sugar. Served on soft hamburger buns for a satisfying family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 lean to fat)
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced)
15 oz can tomato sauce or 1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon halal Worcestershire sauce (no anchovies/added alcohol)
1 teaspoon salt
8 hamburger buns (soft roll preference)

Instructions

Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat
Brown ground beef, breaking into small pieces until no longer pink
Add chopped onion and sauté until softened
Stir in garlic powder, salt, brown sugar, tomato sauce/ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce
Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened and fragrant (15-20 minutes)
Serve on warmed buns, topping each with the beef mixture

Notes

Substitute tomato sauce with ketchup for a sweeter base
Adjust brown sugar to taste
Top with pickles or cheese if desired
Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days
