Description
This cozy cinnamon French toast features thick slices of brioche or challah soaked in a custard mixture of eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. Golden on the outside and soft inside, it’s a fuss-free, family-friendly breakfast perfect for weekends.
Ingredients
Thick sliced bread, 8 slices (brioche, challah, or thick white bread preferred)
Large eggs, 4
Milk, 1 cup (whole or 2% recommended)
Ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons
Vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon (preferably pure)
Salt, 1/4 teaspoon
Butter, 2 tablespoons (cooking, divided)
Instructions
In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
Soak 1-2 bread slices in the custard, allowing them to absorb the mixture but avoiding sogginess.
Heat 1/2 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium heat until sizzling.
Cook the soaked bread slices on each side until golden brown, repeating with remaining butter and custard.
Serve warm with syrup, fruit, or powdered sugar.
Notes
Use thicker bread slices for better custard absorption
Adjust cinnamon amount to taste
Substitute buttermilk for a moister texture
Add a splash of maple syrup to the custard for extra sweetness
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days
