Description

A simple, refreshing homemade lemonade made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water. Perfect for warm weather, this timeless recipe balances tart and sweet flavors with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale

1.5 cups fresh lemon juice (from 68 medium lemons)
1 cup granulated sugar
5 cups cold water, divided
Ice cubes, for serving
Lemon slices and mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup cold water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves, 3-5 minutes.
Remove from heat and let syrup cool slightly.
In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice and remaining 4 cups cold water. Stir in sugar syrup until well blended.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Add ice cubes to glasses and pour lemonade. Garnish with lemon slices and mint if desired.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best flavor.
Adjust sugar to taste depending on lemon sweetness.
Meyer lemons produce a sweeter, less tart flavor.
Add strawberries or herbs like basil for fun variations.
